ROOM Book + $30 Gift Card Giveaway #ROOMmovie

by Paula on October 25, 2015

THE POST BELOW MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. FOR MORE DETAILS, PLEASE SEE OUR DISCLOSURE NOTICE.

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for A24. I received information to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

ROOM Movie opens November 6

It’s movie season and another great movie that you need to know about is coming out soon!

ROOM book cover art

Both highly suspenseful and deeply emotional, ROOM is a unique and unexpectedly tender exploration of the boundless love between a mother and her child under the most harrowing of circumstances.

ROOM movie opens November 6

ROOM tells the extraordinary story of Jack (Jacob Tremblay in a breakout performance), a spirited 5 year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted Ma (Brie Larson, SHORT TERM 12, TRAINWRECK).  Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. Their life, however, is anything but typical—they are trapped—confined to a windowless, 10-by-10-foot space, which Ma has euphemistically named “Room.” Ma has created a whole universe for Jack within Room, and she will stop at nothing to ensure that, even in this treacherous environment, Jack is able to live a complete and fulfilling life.   But as Jack’s curiosity about their situation grows, and Ma’s resilience reaches its breaking point, they enact a risky plan to escape, ultimately bringing them face-to-face with what may turn out to be the scariest thing yet: the real world.  ROOM also stars three-time Academy Award® nominee Joan Allen and Academy Award® nominee William H. Macy.

At once a taut narrative of captivity and freedom, an imaginative trip into the wonders of childhood, and a profound portrait of a family’s bonds and fortitude, ROOM is a beautifully transcendent experience based on the award-winning global bestseller by Emma Donoghue. Director Lenny Abrahamson (FRANK) remains faithful to the novel while bringing Jack, Ma and their entirely singular world to heart-pounding and intensely cinematic life. ROOM demonstrates the triumphant power of familial love even in the darkest of circumstances, and is sure to take its place among the most emotionally affecting films to ever explore the bond between parents and children.

Hurray for a new, faster, more accurate #TBBloodTest!

by Paula on October 4, 2015

THE POST BELOW MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. FOR MORE DETAILS, PLEASE SEE OUR DISCLOSURE NOTICE.

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the TB Blood Test. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

TB Infographic

Many moons ago, when I was about to start kindergarten, my mom dutifully took me to the local health department (there were no pediatricians in rural SC then so that’s where we had routine immunizations and tests performed) to have my necessary boosters and tests.

My little arm was injected with a tiny amount of tuberculin and my mom was told to bring me back within the prescribed 48-72 hours to have the test read.

I’m sure you can guess where this is leading.  Yep, my test was deemed positive.  I then was prescribed a course of medication to eradicate any tuberculosis cooties I might have had.  And now, when I apply for a job within certain fields, I have to present my certified letter and TB card showing that I’ve been successfully treated for TB.  What fun.

All of that to be able to tell you how thrilled and excited I am that there is a new TB test that uses a blood sample.  A definitive test.  A completely objective test.  Not one that relies on someone’s subjective measurement of a whelp/lump.  Because it’s completely possible to have a false positive test result.  To have a lump because the site itches and you had to scratch it!  (and you know a 5 year old is completely able to ignore itches!)

And did I mention that this new blood test is a one-visit deal?  Only one visit to the doctor, not two, and we all know how much time a doctor’s visit can take.  Oh, the hassle and aggravation.  And that’s just you.  What if you’re taking in a child or two? Yep, the blood test sounds like a splendid idea.

TB Blood TestI’m sure my mother would have much preferred the TB blood test when I needed it.  Definitely I know I would have chosen it for Ariel if we had needed it.  Interested in finding out more about the TB Blood Test?  Check out the TB Blood Test website here.

I’m In Love With A Monster! {actually, more than one!} — Hotel Transylvania 2 review

by Paula on September 25, 2015

THE POST BELOW MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. FOR MORE DETAILS, PLEASE SEE OUR DISCLOSURE NOTICE.

Ariel and I were treated to a a sneak peek preview of Hotel Transylvania 2 recently and we fell in love all over again with Drac and his pack.  We laughed the entire time…. and we weren’t the only ones!!  The entire theater was entranced and entertained.

Hotel Transylvania 2movie poster

As I mentioned in my Hotel Transylvania 2 giveaway post last week (have you entered yet???  Go here to enter!), we adored the original Hotel Transylvania when it came out a few years ago and fell in love with Drac, Mavis, Johnny, and the rest of the gang.  There was enough slapstick humor to please the kids (and the kids-at-heart) and enough adult/parenting humor that the adults could enjoy too.  Add to all of that, a sweet message of acceptance and love across differences and you have a perfect movie.

Hotel Transylvania 2 builds on all of those strengths.  We get to see Mavis and Johnny as adults/young parents, meet their son Dennis, and fall in love with everyone all over again.

There were many touching scenes where parental love shone through and the struggles we all have (or maybe it’s just me not wanting my baby to grow up?!) watching our children grow and mature and become independent.

The version of Hotel Transylvania 2 we saw was 3D and I have to admit, I am so incredibly prone to being motion sick that I don’t ever choose a 3D movie when we go to the cinema.  I LOVED it!  Didn’t get sick at all and quite the opposite–thought the 3D added so much to the movie experience that I highly recommend it to everyone I can to see this movie in 3D!

Connect with Hotel Transylvania 2 on Facebook here, Twitter here, and visit the official Hotel Transylvania website here.  ENJOY!!

Blah…. blah, blah!  😉

Hotel Transylvania 2 — Drac’s Pack is Back!!

by Paula on September 19, 2015

THE POST BELOW MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. FOR MORE DETAILS, PLEASE SEE OUR DISCLOSURE NOTICE.

We LOVED Hotel Transylvania so finding out a sequel was coming out soon made us very happy!  And it will be out really soon—September 25!

Hotel Transylvania 2 in theaters September 25

Here’s a little about the movie:

Drac’s pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure in Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 2! Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty!

Vampa Drac and Dennis in Hotel Transylvania 2
Hotel Transylvania 2 has been rated PG by the MPAA for the following reasons:  some scary images, action and rude humor.  Hotel Transylvania 2 stars Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, and David Spade.  It’s directed by Genndy Tartakovsky.

Five Fabulous Friday Finds

by Paula on September 4, 2015

THE POST BELOW MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. FOR MORE DETAILS, PLEASE SEE OUR DISCLOSURE NOTICE.

With school just started back, I’m in the mood to get organized and streamlined.  My time is stretched and I need to make sure all of my systems are functioning the best that they can.

Organizing Essentials A Guide to Organizing Everything You Own from Sarah Titus

So, you know I love this post from Sarah Titus on Organizing Everything You Own!  It’s perfect for me!

Crockpot Paleo Minestrone Soup from Confessions of an Over-Worked Mom

I love using my slow cooker when time is tight and we need food FAST.  For a variety of reasons, I’m considering a Paleo diet.  I like this Crockpot Paleo Minestrone Soup recipe from Confessions of an Overworked Mom because it starts out Paleo, but you can easily add rice or pasta for family members that aren’t eating that way.  Win-win!

Extreme Chocolate Ice Cream - No Churn- from Wonky Wonderful

And if I’m going to go Paleo, maybe I need to make this oh-my-goodness-it-looks-amazing Extreme Chocolate Ice Cream from Wonky Wonderful before I start!  WOW!

Turn An Outdated Picture into Updated Art from Hawthorne & Main

With the changing seasons, I’ve been wanting to change things around.  Create some new art, work on a few projects (besides the aforementioned organizing that will take forever and probably never be completely finished), just take advantage of the *new* school year and make some things happen.  So this recycled art project–Turn An Outdated Picture into Updated Art– from Hawthorne & Main looks easy enough to finish quickly and make a big difference in our decor!

Astro Turf Coozies from Uncommon Designs

And I can’t forget my football peeps!  Check out these adorable Astro Turf Coozies from Uncommon Designs.  (I think I love them just a tad more because they have tiger paws on them!  EEP!  GO TIGERS!!)

So that’s what my fall is looking like.  What do you have planned?
