Seems like the whole world is hot for dots this year!! Here are a few cute swimsuits that we liked (all are from our friends over at Justice)—and of course, they’re all dots!!
‘Cause we like dots too!
.
Some cute one-piece suits…

.
.
some darling bikinis….
.
and a few adorable tankinis…

.
So, will your tween be wearing dots? Or not?
“In your Easter bonnet,
with all the frills upon it,
You’ll be the grandest lady
in the Easter Parade…”
Irving Berlin, in penning that oft-sung refrain, immortalized a long-standing tradition of donning new duds in spring, just as the natural world does. (and a movie was written around the song’s lyrics too!)

Now, I’ve never been to an Easter Parade, nor have I ever had an Easter bonnet, but I’m thinking it might not be a bad idea to try one.
What do you think??

Wow! I love them all!! And who knew there were so many beautiful hats on this side of the Atlantic??? All of these hats are from Hat-A-Tude (in Florida!!) and I must tell you, after peeking around on their site, I’m thinking I don’t want a hat…. I NEED a hat. How fun would that be? And then the problem will be: how to choose only one!
Looking for something cute in green to wear for St. Patrick’s Day?
Here are some of our favorite new looks for this season….and they all have at least a touch of green! And lime green just happens to be one of Ariel’s current favorite colors!

So many cute items—there should be no excuse for getting pinched on St. Patrick’s Day!!
Which is your tween’s favorite new look?

Nail Art! It’s huge in our house. We love doing our nails and trying out fun combinations. Sometimes it’s just color… sometimes we add decorations to them. And we’re always looking for inspiration.
Here are a few we’ve found lately that we’ve loved:

Quick! Turn off the lights!

What?!?!?! What is that?!?!?!
Curious????
Turn on the lights and check this out:

It’s a Corset Top created with glow in the dark puff paint!! It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Created by Maya in the Moment and shared on her site — with a great tutorial! That means, you could make something like this too!! Check out Maya’s blog here!

Have you heard about Tavi Gevinson? Now a high school sophomore, she started a fashion blog when she was just 11 years old! (I am not telling Ariel about her, because I’m sure she’d want to start her own blog and I’d never get my laptop back!)
I saw a clip featuring Tavi on one of the morning news shows this week and was intrigued. So I did a little bit of digging and found her blog and a news clip I thought you might enjoy.

Tavi’s blog, The Style Rookie, has had a couple of incarnations, it appears. This looks to be the original version on Tumblr and then she moved over to Blogger, where she had a presence until she started the newest version, an online magazine called, simply, Rookie.

Rookie, the online magazine that Tavi founded and where she serves as editor-in-chief, promotes itself as “honest and authentic, smart and dry” with a “sincere passion for our readers and for what we’re interested in.”
I’ve enjoyed peeking through the pages of her original blogs and of the new Rookie site. I think Tavi has a great eye for fashion and has chosen a niche she knows well: teen girls. I hope that she can keep her site fresh and will be around for my tween to enjoy when she’s a teen.
Here’s an interview with Tavi from NPR’s “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me” that I found enjoyable. You can be her fan on Facebook and follow her on Twitter too.
Best of luck, Tavi! You’re doing a great job and I look forward to reading more of and about you!!

Just a quick find for you today. Check out these new Vera Wang heels. They were chosen as a hot pick by an Elle magazine editor, but I personally think they look like orthopedic heels. Seriously, like someone took Granny’s shoes and put heels on them.
Am I alone in this or do you think the same thing? Or maybe I should just stick to my normal, everyday “low” fashion and leave the high fashion to, ummm, those with more taste???
One of the things I love most about Ariel is her burgeoning sense of fashion. She has definite thoughts about what is and what is not cool. Sometimes her taste coincides with what everyone else likes… sometimes it doesn’t. And she’s confident enough in her own skin to wear what she likes, fashion declarations be darned.
.

When T.J.Maxx and Mom Central Consulting asked if we’d like to go Back to School shopping and share some of our finds with you, we jumped at the chance. Ariel, because she really wanted to show off her individual style. Me, because I love the savings we always find at T.J.Maxx.
Around here, in South Carolina, our schools started back in mid-August and our daily temperatures are still in the upper 70s and frequently mid- to high-80s. We even had some 90 degree weather last week. So the jeans and fall fashions many of you might already be wearing are just too hot for us here. Ariel’s still wearing shorts and tees from this summer, mostly because I refused to buy cool weather clothes until absolutely the last minute.
(Turns out I’m not alone in that. According to a study conducted by Mom Central Consulting and T.J.Maxx, 25 % of all moms wait until the last minute to do their back to school shopping!)
This shopping trip was exactly what we needed to kick start our Back to School shopping. We found some great basic pieces and some super cute fashion items. All in all, a great shopping experience.
Here’s what we bought:
.

.
Our best find by far was this simple black poncho. Ponchos and capelets are uber-hot this year. Ariel was SO excited to find this! Found it on the clearance rack. We paid only $10 for it… comparable price: $26. Great price + happy tween = best deal ever!!
.

.
Ariel fell in love with this Justice tie-dyed hoodie. (YES! T.J.Maxx carries all kind of name brand items, one of the reasons I’ve always loved to shop there….and they’re always at such great prices!!) The size was a bit too large for her… but she LOVED it and I thought, oh, well, she’ll grow into it. And it’ll be nice for layering on those kinda cool days too. And it was also on the clearance rack. How such great finds can be on the clearance rack at this time of year, I’ll never understand…but I am totally grateful that they were. With budgets as tight as they are for people around the country, I know that T.J. Maxx is a wonderful resource for stretching Back to School budgets. We paid just $7 for this great hoodie… not the suggested $9.99.
.

.
An adorable black denim skirt with a few sparkly accents will be a staple in Ariel’s closet this fall. It will go with everything and be a great workhorse piece. Another great item at a great price. $6.50 instead of the comparable price of $25! Steal!
.

.
Another great basic piece is this fab pair of yoga pants. Super soft and comfy, they’re perfect for hanging out at home or dressing up with a cute top for school. And another great price! Just $10, not the $30 “compare at” price!
.

.
This cute teal skirt will be a showpiece in Ariel’s wardrobe this fall. She’s excited about flouncing around and being all super-cute in it!! (yes, I know it looks blue here, but I promise, it’s teal!) How can you go wrong with a $7 skirt (instead of $26!) I am truly in awe of how T.J.Maxx manages to find such great fashion pieces, with such well-known brands, and offer them at such fantastic prices! Guess that’s what having awesome buyers that are trend experts will do for a store!
.

.
And the last piece we purchased was this cute purple shirt with an attached scarf. Ariel is an accessories queen. Loves all the add-ons that make an outfit zing. Earrings, necklaces, scarves. She loves experimenting with different looks and finding out what works for her. I can predict that long after she’s outgrown this shirt, the scarf will still be a major part of her wardrobe. Maybe she’ll wear it as a scarf… but maybe as a belt…. or maybe as a hair accessory. Never fear. She’ll do something creative and fun with it! Also a great price…. just $7.50 for both pieces…. not $20!
.
All in all, a great shopping trip!
We bought 6 fantastic pieces for $48! We had current fashion choices, basic wardrobe necessities, and brand names to choose from. I was, as always, impressed by how well-organized the store was. Sizes were clearly marked on the hangers (not always the case at a discount store) and items were where they should have been… not floating around the store, misplaced. Obviously, management and staff take great pride in presenting a clean and easily navigable shopping experience–and it showed.
So many times, Ariel and I can’t find pieces we can both agree on. (like 75% of the moms surveyed by Mom Central Consulting and T.J.Maxx!) But during this shopping trip, we had no problems agreeing on the perfect purchases. Ariel’s thrilled with her new duds and so am I. Thanks, T.J.Maxx for making this an awesome Back to School shopping trip!!
