Stylin’ & Profilin’ Saturday: Back to School with T.J.Maxx

One of the things I love most about Ariel is her burgeoning sense of fashion.  She has definite thoughts about what is and what is not cool.  Sometimes her taste coincides with what everyone else likes… sometimes it doesn’t.  And she’s confident enough in her own skin to wear what she likes, fashion declarations be darned.

.

When T.J.Maxx and Mom Central Consulting asked if we’d like to go Back to School shopping and share some of our finds with you, we jumped at the chance.  Ariel, because she really wanted to show off her individual style.  Me, because I love the savings we always find at T.J.Maxx.

Around here, in South Carolina, our schools started back in mid-August and our daily temperatures are still in the upper 70s and frequently mid- to high-80s.  We even had some 90 degree weather last week.  So the jeans and fall fashions many of you might already be wearing are just too hot for us here.  Ariel’s still wearing shorts and tees from this summer, mostly because I refused to buy cool weather clothes until absolutely the last minute.

(Turns out I’m not alone in that.  According to a study conducted by Mom Central Consulting and T.J.Maxx, 25 % of all moms wait until the last minute to do their back to school shopping!)

This shopping trip was exactly what we needed to kick start our Back to School shopping.  We found some great basic pieces and some super cute fashion items.  All in all, a great shopping experience.

Here’s what we bought:

.

.

Our best find by far was this simple black poncho.  Ponchos and capelets are uber-hot this year. Ariel was SO excited to find this!  Found it on the clearance rack.  We paid only $10 for it… comparable price:  $26.  Great price + happy tween = best deal ever!!

.

.

Ariel fell in love with this Justice tie-dyed hoodie.  (YES!  T.J.Maxx carries all kind of name brand items, one of the reasons I’ve always loved to shop there….and they’re always at such great prices!!)  The size was a bit too large for her… but she LOVED it and I thought, oh, well, she’ll grow into it.  And it’ll be nice for layering on those kinda cool days too.  And it was also on the clearance rack.  How such great finds can be on the clearance rack at this time of year, I’ll never understand…but I am totally grateful that they were.  With budgets as tight as they are for people around the country, I know that T.J. Maxx is a wonderful resource for stretching Back to School budgets.  We paid just $7 for this great hoodie… not the suggested $9.99.

.

.

An adorable black denim skirt with a few sparkly accents will be a staple in Ariel’s closet this fall.  It will go with everything and be a great workhorse piece.  Another great item at a great price.  $6.50 instead of the comparable price of $25!  Steal!

.

.

Another great basic piece is this fab pair of yoga pants.  Super soft and comfy, they’re perfect for hanging out at home or dressing up with a cute top for school.  And another great price!  Just $10, not the $30 “compare at” price!

.

.

This cute teal skirt will be a showpiece in Ariel’s wardrobe this fall.  She’s excited about flouncing around and being all super-cute in it!!  (yes, I know it looks blue here, but I promise, it’s teal!)  How can you go wrong with a $7 skirt (instead of $26!)  I am truly in awe of how T.J.Maxx manages to find such great fashion pieces, with such well-known brands, and offer them at such fantastic prices!  Guess that’s what having awesome buyers that are trend experts will do for a store!

.

.

And the last piece we purchased was this cute purple shirt with an attached scarf.  Ariel is an accessories queen.  Loves all the add-ons that make an outfit zing.  Earrings, necklaces, scarves.  She loves experimenting with different looks and finding out what works for her.  I can predict that long after she’s outgrown this shirt, the scarf will still be a major part of her wardrobe.  Maybe she’ll wear it as a scarf… but maybe as a belt…. or maybe as a hair accessory.  Never fear.  She’ll do something creative and fun with it!  Also a great price…. just $7.50 for both pieces…. not $20!

.

All in all, a great shopping trip!

We bought 6 fantastic pieces for $48! We had current fashion choices, basic wardrobe necessities, and brand names to choose from.  I was, as always, impressed by how well-organized the store was.  Sizes were clearly marked on the hangers (not always the case at a discount store) and items were where they should have been… not floating around the store, misplaced.  Obviously, management and staff take great pride in presenting a clean and easily navigable shopping experience–and it showed.

So many times, Ariel and I can’t find pieces we can both agree on.  (like 75% of the moms surveyed by Mom Central Consulting and T.J.Maxx!)  But during this shopping trip, we had no problems agreeing on the perfect purchases.  Ariel’s thrilled with her new duds and so am I.  Thanks, T.J.Maxx for making this an awesome Back to School shopping trip!!
